DMK to Boycott Governor’s At Home Reception on Independence Day

Date:

Chennai: On Wednesday, the ruling DMK declared that it will be boycotting the annual At Home reception hosted by Governor RN Ravi at Raj Bhavan on Independence Day.

The DMK’s announcement came a day after several of its alliance partners, including Congress, VCK, CPI, CPM, and MMK, also declared their intention to boycott the event on Thursday. RS Bharathi, the DMK’s organizing secretary, mentioned that a decision regarding the State government’s representation at the reception will be made by the Chief Minister’s office later on Wednesday.

Although Bharathi did not specify the reasons for the party’s boycott, the ruling party’s allies have cited the Governor’s alleged interference with the functioning of the elected state government as their primary reason for the boycott.
