Chennai: Following the release of the Hema Committee report, prominent actors in Malayalam cinema, among others, are facing allegations. The government has formed a special investigation team to probe the allegations and revelations made by women film workers. In this context, there is a growing demand for similar investigations across the film industries of various languages in India.

Against the backdrop of the Hema Committee report, Tamil Nadu’s film industry is preparing to take strong action against sexual misconduct faced by female workers. The Tamil Actors’ Association, also known as the Nadigar Sangam, has announced that it will establish an internal grievance redressal cell to investigate complaints.

If complaints are found to be true, severe action will be taken, including banning offenders from the film industry for up to five years. In addition to punitive measures, the association, led by President Nasar, General Secretary Vishal, and Treasurer Karthi, has decided to provide legal assistance to the victims.

A special email and phone number will be set up to report complaints directly to the internal grievance redressal cell. Complaints received will be forwarded to the cyber police. Victims are strictly warned not to disclose their complaints to the media before reporting them to the organization.
