Bengali Actress Files Complaint Against Director Ranjith

Date:

Kochi: Sreelekha Mithra, the Bengali actress has filed a complaint with the police against director Ranjith. This action follows Ranjith’s resignation. The complaint has been submitted via email to the Kochi Police Commissioner. Earlier, the actress had stated that she would not pursue legal action against Ranjith. She had mentioned that Ranjith’s resignation indicated an acknowledgment of his wrongdoing. However, Ranjith subsequently clarified that he was being falsely accused and announced that he would file a complaint with the police. The actress’s current move comes in response to this.

The actress revealed that during the filming of the 2009-10 movie “Paleri Manikyam,” directed by Ranjith, he behaved inappropriately towards her. She said she spent an entire night in a hotel out of fear.

The actress had previously informed documentary filmmaker Joshi Joseph about the incident. However, no one followed up with her. She claimed that she was denied opportunities in “Paleri Manikyam” and other Malayalam films due to her resistance to the director’s misconduct.

Following these allegations, there has been widespread protest demanding Ranjith’s resignation from his position as Chairman of the Kerala State Film Academy. Various political parties, including the CPI, have strongly condemned Ranjith. In response to these protests, Ranjith stated that he should not be attacked in connection with the government. He claimed that since taking over as Chairman of the Film Academy, a group of people has been working against him. Ranjith asserted that he would prove the accusations false and make the truth clear to the public.
