Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders on Thursday celebrated the Supreme Court’s decision to grant bail to party leader and Telangana State Legislative Council member Kalvakuntla Kavitha in the Delhi excise policy case. However, Congress criticized the development, suggesting it resulted from a clandestine agreement between the BRS and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP, in turn, accused Congress of facilitating Kavitha’s bail.
BRS Working President T. Rama Rao expressed his gratitude on X, stating, “Thank you, Supreme Court. Relieved. Justice prevailed,” after the bail was granted.
KTR, currently in Delhi with other BRS lawmakers and senior leaders, is set to escort Kavitha back to Hyderabad on Wednesday morning, where a grand reception is being organized by the party.
BRS spokesperson Dasoju Sravan welcomed the bail as a resolution to what the party has characterized as politically motivated accusations against Kavitha. He praised the Supreme Court’s decision as a victory for truth and justice, highlighting that the court’s observations during the hearing were crucial in exposing the unfair treatment Kavitha received. Sravan described the bail as a vindication of Kavitha’s integrity and a sign that justice triumphs over political machinations.
In contrast, Telangana Congress Working President B. Mahesh Kumar Goud suggested that Kavitha’s bail indicates a potential merger between the BRS and BJP. He claimed that KTR and T. Harish Rao had engaged in discussions with BJP leaders in Delhi to secure Kavitha’s release and alleged that the Enforcement Directorate was complicit in the process. Goud argued that these developments suggest the beginning of a merger between the two parties, aimed at undermining the Congress government in the state.
The BJP, however, asserted that Congress played a role in securing Kavitha’s bail. Former Telangana BJP President and Union Minister of State Bandi Sanjay congratulated Congress and its advocates on X, implying that their efforts led to Kavitha’s release. He remarked on the political maneuvering involved, noting that senior Supreme Court advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, a Congress leader, argued for Kavitha and was subsequently elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Telangana.
In response, KTR sharply criticized Sanjay’s remarks, describing them as “highly unbecoming” for a Union Minister. He urged the Supreme Court to consider the comments and initiate contempt proceedings. KTR emphasized that casting aspersions on the judiciary was inappropriate for someone holding a ministerial position.
