Paris: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has announced that hockey goalkeeper PR Sreejesh and pistol shooter Manu Bhaker will be the joint flagbearers for India at the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This decision highlights both athletes’ significant achievements and contributions to Indian sports.
IOA president PT Usha emphasized that Sreejesh’s selection was an emotional and popular choice within the IOA leadership and the Indian contingent. She also noted the endorsement of javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, who won a silver medal at the Games. Chopra’s support for Sreejesh as a flagbearer reflects the deep respect he has for Sreejesh’s impact on Indian sports.
Manu Bhaker, who was earlier named as the female flagbearer, made history by winning multiple medals in a single Olympic Games for the first time since India’s independence. She secured bronze medals in both the 10m air pistol women’s event and the 10m air pistol mixed team event alongside Sarabjot Singh.
