New Delhi: The Bangladesh foreign ministry has recalled five envoys, including the one from India, to return to Dhaka. The other four are from Australia, Belgium, Portugal, and the UN. The interim government is recalling the ambassadors and high commissioners as part of a significant reshuffle in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In separate directives, the ministry instructed the diplomats to return to Dhaka “without delay” on Tuesday.
The heads of the missions summoned to headquarters include Mustafizur Rahman, the high commissioner to Delhi; Muhammad Abdul Muhith, permanent representative to the United Nations; M Allama Siddiqui, the high commissioner to Australia; Mahbub Hassan Saleh, the ambassador to Belgium; and Rezina Ahmed, the ambassador to Portugal. Additionally, three other ministry officials have been reassigned.

In the ministry’s shakeup, Director Arifur Rahman has been appointed deputy high commissioner in Mumbai, Assistant High Commissioner Kazi Ziaul Hasan will serve as minister (local) at the Beijing embassy, and Mosammat Shahanara Monica, minister (local) at the permanent mission to the UN in New York, has been named deputy high commissioner in Kuala Lumpur.
This overhaul of overseas missions is part of the administrative changes following the fall of the Awami League government amid a student-led mass uprising.
