Gaza: The Israeli army claims to have killed Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. International media reports state that Sinwar is among the three people killed in the Israeli airstrike in Gaza. The Israeli army has stated that the death can only be confirmed after DNA testing. Meanwhile, Reuters reports that members of Israel’s security cabinet have indicated that Sinwar is likely dead. Israeli media outlets such as KAN and N12 News are also reporting that Sinwar has been killed.
Yahya Sinwar became the Hamas leader following the killing of Ismail Haniyeh last August. Speculation about his death has arisen in recent months. Sinwar was the main orchestrator of the Hamas attacks in Israel last October.
Meanwhile, Israeli attacks continue in southern Lebanon. An Israeli airstrike has killed five people, including a town mayor. The airstrike in the city of Nabatiyeh occurred during a meeting led by the mayor to discuss the aftermath of the Israeli attacks.
The bombing by Israelis caused the municipal building in Nabatiyeh to collapse. In the past few days, Israel has conducted 11 airstrikes in and around Nabatiyeh. Rescue operations are ongoing amid the rubble, with reports indicating that several people are trapped.
