New Delhi: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has strongly condemned the recent attack on a Hindu temple in Canada, along with reported attempts to intimidate Indian diplomats. Emphasizing India’s steadfast resolve, he called for justice and the upholding of the rule of law by the Canadian government.

In his statement posted on X, Prime Minister Modi said:
“I strongly condemn the deliberate attack on a Hindu temple in Canada. Equally appalling are the cowardly attempts to intimidate our diplomats. Such acts of violence will never weaken India’s resolve. We expect the Canadian government to ensure justice and uphold the rule of law.”

This marks Modi’s first official statement regarding the attacks by pro-Khalistani elements in Canada targeting Indians. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also condemned the acts of violence, calling them perpetrated by “terrorists and secessionists.” Hours later, Modi’s remarks echoed the MEA’s stance, reinforcing India’s concerns.

The Ministry of External Affairs urged the Canadian government, led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, to ensure the protection of all places of worship. “We expect the Canadian government to take swift action against those involved in such attacks and ensure that all places of worship are protected from such assaults,” MEA spokesperson Randeep Jaiswal told the media.

Jaiswal also expressed “deep concern” about the safety of Indian citizens in Canada, emphasizing that Indian diplomats should not be subjected to threats, harassment, or violence.

The attack on the Hindu temple in Brampton by pro-Khalistani supporters targeting Hindu worshippers was condemned by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as well. He stated that acts of violence would not be tolerated in Canada. “The violence taking place today at a Hindu temple in Brampton is unacceptable. Every Canadian has the right to celebrate their faith freely and safely,” Trudeau said. He thanked the police for their prompt response in securing the community and investigating the incident.

Videos widely shared online by Canadian MPs and others show a group of individuals armed with sticks attacking worshippers outside the temple. The assailants, associated with pro-Khalistani groups, were carrying flags with the Khalistani insignia. The Hindu Canadian Foundation, a community organization, reported that women and children were among those attacked during the assault.
