New York: The UN General Assembly (UNGA) has passed a resolution calling for the illegal Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories to end within one year. In a vote held on Wednesday, 124 countries supported the resolution in favor of Palestine, while 14 countries, including the United States and Israel, opposed it. Additionally, 43 countries, including India, abstained from voting.
The resolution also demands that Israel provide compensation for the damages caused to Palestine due to the occupation. The UNGA introduced the resolution following advice from the International Court of Justice (ICJ). The ICJ emphasized the need to prevent the genocide occurring in Gaza and urged Israel to take measures to allow adequate humanitarian assistance into the region. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed the resolution, stating that it was a historic moment.
