Kochi: A fake bomb threat at the Kochi International Airport caused a stir after a passenger made a joke. The individual is currently in police custody. The incident occurred during an X-ray baggage inspection system (X-BIS) checkpoint.
On Sunday morning, Manoj Kumar arrived at Kochi International Airport to board an Air India flight to Mumbai. During security checks, when asked about the contents of his bag, the 42-year-old Kumar jokingly responded that it contained a bomb. Following this, he was reportedly arrested, according to ANI news agency.
According to an official statement released by Kochi Airport, “During pre-embarkation security checks, Manoj asked a CISF officer, ‘Is there a bomb in my bag?’ This statement immediately caused concern and prompted the airport security team to take swift action.”
Airport authorities called the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), which conducted a thorough inspection of both the passenger’s cabin and baggage.
After completing the necessary checks, Kumar was handed over to local police for further investigation. The Air India flight departed as scheduled.
