Actress Kasturi Remanded in Case for Offensive Remarks Against Telugu People

Chennai: Actress Kasturi has been remanded in Judicial Custody until Nov.29 in connection with a case for making derogatory remarks against the Telugu community. Following the registration of the case, she had been in hiding. She was apprehended in Hyderabad, where she had been staying in the house of a film producer in Kachibowli. The arrest was made by a special investigative team from Chennai.

She was produced before the Vth Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Egmore on Sunday, where Magistrate Ragupathy Raja issued the remand order. She was subsequently admitted to the Puzhal prison.

Kasturi had previously sought anticipatory bail in the case, but her petition was rejected by the Madras High Court. The controversial remarks were made during an event organized by the Hindu Makkal Katchi in Tamil Nadu. Kasturi had commented that the women who served as attendants in the palaces of kings were the “backward class Telugu women.”

The remarks triggered a backlash, with multiple complaints being filed against her in Chennai and Madurai. In relation to the case, a notice was issued to Kasturi. When officials arrived at her residence during the investigation, they found the house locked, and Kasturi’s phone was switched off.

Intense criticism of the actress spread across social media platforms, leading to her issuing an apology after the situation escalated.
