Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court has ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take over the investigation of the case involving the alleged rape and murder of a female doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College in Bengal. The 31-year-old doctor was found dead in the seminar hall on Friday morning. The court criticized the hospital authorities for serious lapses in their actions following the incident. It was particularly distressing that Dr. Sandeep Ghosh, who was the principal of the medical college at the time, failed to take any proactive measures.
The court has directed that Dr. Sandeep Ghosh be the first to be questioned in connection with the case. Following the protests, Dr. Ghosh resigned but was appointed to a similar position at another college within hours. The court has now ordered that Dr. Ghosh be immediately removed from his current position and placed on compulsory leave. Dr. Sandeep Ghosh has been appointed to Kolkata National Medical College.
The authorities at R.G. Kar Medical College did not stand by the deceased doctor or her family. The court noted that this is a rare case and expressed concerns about the possibility of evidence being destroyed
