High Court Denies Anticipatory Bail for Actor Siddique in Sexual Assault Case

Date:

Kochi: The High Court has rejected actor Siddique’s anticipatory bail application in a sexual assault case. Justice C.S. Dias dismissed the pre-arrest bail request, which was filed in connection with a case registered by the Museum police in Thiruvananthapuram. Siddique claimed that the allegations against him were baseless and sought the grant of anticipatory bail. However, the High Court denied this request, indicating that Siddique may face arrest in the case. In the absence of bail, the investigation team is expected to proceed swiftly with further actions related to the investigation. The investigation team has clarified that subsequent actions will take place only after receiving the High Court’s order.

Siddique had stated in court that there was no sexual assault complaint regarding the allegations raised by the woman years ago. He maintained that the accusations against him were unfounded and aimed at humiliating him. He expressed his willingness to cooperate with the investigation in his anticipatory bail petition.

Meanwhile, the investigation team has stated that strong evidence and witness statements have been obtained in the complaint filed by the young actress against Siddique. The evidence corroborates the complainant’s claim that she was called to a hotel in Thiruvananthapuram and assaulted. The High Court dismissed the anticipatory bail application considering the evidence against Siddique.

The young woman came forward with a sexual assault complaint against Siddique, who was the general secretary of AMMA, following the release of the Hema Committee report. The actress alleged that the incident occurred on January 28, 2016, stating that after a film preview at Nila Theater, Siddique called her to the Mascot Hotel in Thiruvananthapuram and sexually assaulted her forcefully.
