Kolkata Doctor Murder Case: Ex-Medical College Principal and Police Officer Remanded to CBI Custody

Date:

Kolkata: In the case of the brutal rape and murder of a young doctor in Kolkata, the former Principal of RG Kar Medical College, Sandeep Ghosh, and the Police Station Officer in Charge, Abhijit Mondal, has been remanded to three days of CBI custody. The Kolkata Sealdah court granted the CBI’s request for custody of the two, with the agency arguing in court that both Ghosh and Mondal played a crucial role in the crime. The CBI also claimed that the two attempted to destroy evidence after the murder.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has once again urged the protesting junior doctors to end their strike. The Chief Minister personally appealed to the protesters to call off their agitation.

Mamata Banerjee stated that she is willing to consider the demands of the protesters if they trust her, but that she needs time to address the issues. She added that the police officials whom the doctors are demanding resign are not her friends, and emphasized the need for time for a proper investigation. This, she said, is her final effort to convince the doctors to return to work.
