Kochi: Director Ashiq Abu has stated that the newly formed organization in the Malayalam film industry is intended for all film workers. The idea of a progressive organization that emphasizes progressive ideas for those working in all sectors of cinema has been discussed by many in the industry. The concept of the “Progressive Malayalam Filmmakers Association” has emerged as part of this initiative, as clarified in a press release issued by the organization’s interim committee.
The release notes that everyone from producers to poster designers will be part of the new organization. The statement was released in the names of directors Ashiq Abu, Rajeev Ravi, Kamal KM, and Ajayan Adat. It also mentions that the organization may adopt a different name once it is officially established.

“The idea of a progressive organization focused on those working in all sectors of cinema has been discussed by many film workers. This concept is named the ‘Progressive Malayalam Filmmakers Association.’ Once the organization is officially established, it may adopt a different name if necessary. The perspective is that everyone from producers to poster designers is considered a filmmaker. There will be representation from all sectors of cinema in a governance capacity. After the organization is formed, leadership will be determined democratically. Until then, a temporary committee will function. Following elections, the organization will attain full status.
The matters circulating in the news are based on a letter that emerged during the conceptual phase of the organization. This letter was informally released for general idea formation. Since the names of those who participated in the discussions were included in that letter, many aspects have been misinterpreted. News reports have also included photographs of individuals listed in the letter under the heading ‘heavyweights’ in an ‘organization’ that has yet to be formed. An official clarification is required at this stage, which is why this announcement has been made.”
