Palakkad: The polling in the Palakkad constituency has concluded, with a voter turnout of 70.18%. This marks a lower turnout compared to last year. The polling percentages recorded in different regions were Palakkad 70.12%, Pirayari 69.78%, Mathur 69.29%, and Kannadi 68.42%.
Voting began at 7 a.m. after mock polling and continued beyond 6 p.m. There were long queues at several booths early in the morning, with voters lined up to cast their votes. In one incident, UDF candidate Rahul Mankoottil was confined inside a booth, leading to clashes at various locations. Following allegations of double voting, BJP district president K.M. Haridas did not cast his vote.
A total of 1,94,706 voters, including 1,00,290 women voters, participated in the election across the Palakkad municipality, Pirayari, Kannadi, and Mathur Panchayats, which are part of the legislative assembly constituency. 184 polling booths were set up for voting, and 10 candidates are contesting in Palakkad.
