Bengaluru: The police have found dead the man suspected to be the prime suspect in the murder that rocked the city of Bengaluru. 31-year-old Mukthiranjan Pratap Ray, the main accused in the case of murdering 29-year-old Mahalakshmi, was found dead near Bhuinpur village in Bhadrak district of Odisha, after cutting her body into pieces and keeping it in a refrigerator. The police had appointed a special investigation team to arrest the accused in the case. The police investigation soon revealed that Ray was the main accused. It was from the interrogation of several people, including Mahalakshmi’s husband and colleagues, that Ray was found to be missing from her residence in Bengaluru.
Later, the police contacted Ray’s brother. He told the police that Ray called him on the phone and confessed to the murder. He told police he had asked Ray to leave the state. Police said that Ray called his brother who lives in West Bengal and that was his last known location.
When the investigation team came to know that Ray was in Odisha, he was found dead. Bengaluru DCP (Central) Shekhar H Thekannavar confirmed to The Indian Express that Ray committed suicide. Mahalakshmi and Ray used to work in the same mall. Police said the two have been friends since 2023. Mahalakshmi was separated from her husband.
