തമിഴ്നാട്ടിലെ തൂത്തുക്കുടി ജില്ലയിലെ കെഎഫ്സി ഔട്ട്ലെറ്റിലാണ് പരിശോധന നടന്നത്. പഴയ പാചക എണ്ണ ശുദ്ധീകരിക്കുന്നതിന് മഗ്നീഷ്യം സിലിക്കേറ്റ്-സിന്തറ്റിക് (എംഎസ്എസ്) എന്ന രാസവസ്തു ചേർത്തതായി ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥർ കണ്ടെത്തി. തുടർന്ന് ഭക്ഷ്യസുരക്ഷാ വകുപ്പ് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥർ കെഎഫ്സി റസ്റ്റോറന്റിൽ നിന്ന് 18 കിലോ മഗ്നീഷ്യം സിലിക്കേറ്റ് സിന്തറ്റിക്, 45 ലിറ്റർ പഴകിയ പാചക എണ്ണ, 56 കിലോ മാരിനേറ്റ് ചെയ്ത ചിക്കൻ എന്നിവ പിടിച്ചെടുത്തു. റസ്റ്റോറന്റിന്റെ ലൈസൻസ് സസ്പെൻ്റ് ചെയ്തു. കെഎഫ്സി ലൈസൻസി, തിരുപ്പൂരിലെ കെഎഫ്സി മെറ്റീരിയൽ ഗോഡൗണിനോടും മുംബൈയിലെ കെഎഫ്സി ആസ്ഥാനത്തെ നോമിനിയോടും എഫ്എസ്എസ്എഐയുടെ നിയുക്ത ഓഫീസർ മുമ്പാകെ ഹാജരാകാൻ സമൻസ് അയച്ചിട്ടുമുണ്ട്.
അംഗീകൃത ബയോഡീസൽ ഡീലർ ഉപയോഗിച്ച എണ്ണകൾ നീക്കം ചെയ്യുന്നതിൻ്റെ അളവ് കുറയുന്ന പശ്ചാത്തലത്തിലാണ്, അപ്രതീക്ഷിത പരിശോധന നടത്തിയതെന്ന് ഫുഡ് സേഫ്റ്റി നിയുക്ത ഓഫീസർ ഡോ. മാരിയപ്പൻ പറഞ്ഞു. എഫ്എസ്എസ്എഐ നിയമങ്ങൾ അനുസരിച്ച് ഒരിക്കൽ ഉപയോഗിച്ച എണ്ണ വീണ്ടും ഉപയോഗിക്കാൻ കഴിയില്ല എന്നതിനാൽ ഔട്ട്ലെറ്റ് വഴി ഉപയോഗിച്ച എണ്ണ കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്യുന്നതിലേക്കാണ് പരിശോധന തിരിഞ്ഞത്,” അദ്ദേഹം കൂട്ടിച്ചേർത്തു.
ഡോ. മാരിയപ്പൻ പറയുന്നതനുസരിച്ച്, ഭക്ഷ്യ സേവന ബിസിനസുകളിൽ എംഎസ്എസിന് സ്ഥാനമില്ല. ഉപയോഗിച്ച എണ്ണകൾ ശുദ്ധീകരിക്കാനുള്ള അഡിറ്റീവുകളൊന്നും FSSAI അനുവദിക്കുന്നില്ല. ഭക്ഷ്യ സുരക്ഷയെ നിയന്ത്രിക്കുന്ന ചട്ടങ്ങൾ അനുസരിച്ച് ഉപയോഗിച്ച ഭക്ഷ്യ എണ്ണകളുടെ പുനരുപയോഗം പാടില്ല.
